Dear reader,

During six of the seven days of the week I have the immense honor, as director of La Vanguardia, to look into the digital and paper editions to write a brief analysis of current news. It is a great responsibility, but also an excellent opportunity to value the work that the entire Editorial Department does. Now we have thought it appropriate to go a little further and write this weekly newsletter to better explain how we do our work and, in the process, summarize some of the week’s news that deserves to be highlighted.

No one is unaware of the volatility of the times we live in and the uncertainty generated by a world marked by the climate crisis, migratory movements, the emergence of new disruptive technologies such as AI or the war conflicts that occur in different parts of the globe. without any world political authority being able to stop them. At La Vanguardia we try to approach this very complex reality with the sole objective of explaining what is happening and, above all, trying to give the keys and explanations about the causes that cause it.

Never has the average citizen had access to so much information as in our days and this, however, does not translate into more general knowledge. The ease of creating all kinds of informative content without any control is one of the causes of this perversity.

For this reason, we believe that it is more necessary than ever to carry out an exercise in transparency to better explain to our readers how we work and how we make decisions that affect the focus and selection of different news items.
