A 12-year-old boy was rescued on Saturday afternoon and emergency services continue to search for an adult missing after falling into the sea on Rojas beach, in the municipality of El Sauzal (Tenerife), due to strong waves.
According to the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes), 112, at around 4:45 p.m., an alert was received reporting that two people had fallen into the sea, adding that the adult had hit the rocks and that the minor was swimming to get away. of the breaker. For this reason, the Emergency and Rescue Group of the Canary Islands Government (GES), Tenerife Firefighters, Maritime Rescue, Local Police, Civil Guard and Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) were activated.
The GES helicopter located the minor, hoisted him onto the aircraft and landed on a nearby platform where the SUC ambulances were already waiting to provide him with medical assistance. In this regard, the minor, who had hypothermia and moderate erosions, was transferred by ambulance to the Canary Islands University Hospital along with a woman in a state of anxiety.
The SUC in turn activated the group of emergency psychologists to assist the relatives of those affected at the scene of the incident.
The Tenerife Firefighters team that went to the scene collaborated with the health and rescue resources, but the strong waves and the poor state of the sea prevented them from rescuing the other person who, according to what they informed the coordinating center, had disappeared in one of the caves in the area.
For its part, the GES helicopter returned to the place where the victim had disappeared until it was relieved by the Maritime Rescue helicopter, the Helimer, which continued the search without obtaining results. A Maritime Rescue vessel joined the search device by sea and agents from the Local Police, Civil Guard and Firefighters collaborated on land.
However, the SUC maintained a preventive medicalized ambulance and the psychological support group, while Civil Guard agents remained in the search area during the night. On Sunday morning, the search for the man was resumed with the intervention of the Local Police, the Civil Guard with GEAS and land agents, and Maritime Rescue.
