Ilia Topuria has made history in Spanish sports. The fighter from Alicante defeated the Australian Alexander Volkanovski on February 17, becoming the new UFC Featherweight World Champion. A story worthy of a movie, which has made him the man of the moment in the country. Since that historic night in Anaheim, the Matador has had a true mass bath in the city of Madrid.
After passing through the Santiago Bernabéu and Madrid City Hall, Topuria concluded a long Monday day at El Hormiguero, with Pablo Motos. There, the new king of MMA has been able to analyze in detail his fight as Volkanovski, as well as highlight his dreams and leave motivational phrases for the entire public. However, one of the most striking moments of the night was presented by one of his collaborators.
Omar Montes, in addition to being one of the most prominent rappers on the current Spanish scene, is also a member of the team that accompanies Ilia Topuria in his fights. The one from Pan Bendito accompanied the man from Alicante on his visit to the sets of San Sebastián de los Reyes, where he also revealed that he had composed a song specifically for El Matador after his victory. It is a collaboration with the urban artist Saiko.
“I feel like the matador, I take care of mine, my family. I always keep my word, I am not envious. Pride where I come from, I can never forget it. Now I have an Aston Martin and a house by the sea. I have everything I want, in my dreams I lived it. I do not choose my destiny, God wanted it that way. Of course I know fear, I can’t deny it to you. I came to be a legend… Everyone is going to remember me,” says the lyrics of the song.
The final section of the verse ends up combining with the phrase ‘Ay morena de mi corazón’, included in the song that Topuria uses for her entrances to the arena in the UFC: The mariachi song by Antonio Banderas and Los Lobos. Montes himself commented on the topic with the guests: “I didn’t give him anything for his birthday, because I’m a disaster, I don’t even remember my mother’s, and I said what better way to do it than to make him a song of my own, with everything my heart, with my brother Saiko.”
It was one of the most striking scenes of the night, including the explanation of Ilia Topuria’s third dream: obtaining a Spanish DNI. Born in Germany to Georgian parents, Topuria moved to Alicante when he was 15, where he began training at the Climent Club gym. However, since Georgia is not among the countries that are part of the Schengen area, it has not yet been able to resolve the issue of nationality. Despite this, he wants to resolve it with Pedro Sánchez personally.
