At the Mobile World Congress, the Center Tecnològic de Catalunya presents a robot capable of offering personalized assistance to users, offering reasoning and emotions to generate dynamics in their behavior.
The robot uses generative artificial intelligence that helps it maintain complex interactions with the user, using natural language. “It is capable of interacting naturally with people by providing an open dialogue” explains Magí Dalmau, head of Eurecat’s Cognitive Robotics Line.
The objective of the creation is to provide support to people who suffer from dependency or who are in adulthood and feel alone.
The project has been developed within the “Never Home Alone” framework, seeking to create an emotional connection with users. “It fuses its own understandings with the peripheral devices that a person can wear, digital health devices,” Magí Dalmau remarks.
The robot monitors cognitive and physical health. Daniel Serrano, director of Eurecat’s Robotics and Automation Unit, explains that the robot helps improve the life habits of the affected person, as well as stopping emotions such as boredom or physical or cognitive deterioration. The robot not only offers a service to the user: “It helps to promote interaction with the family, as well as with the therapeutic network or with caregivers,” emphasizes Daniel Serrano.
The project brings together different shareholders from different areas. Finding partners with experience in caring for the elderly, scientists dedicated to social cognitive, affective and human robotics, as well as companies in the field of robotics.
