The greatest love story ever told is Jennifer Lopez’s new project, which since February 27 can be seen on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Jason Bergh, it is one of the actress, singer and dancer’s biggest projects: it explores a 20-year personal journey towards self-love.

A story of which Ben Affleck, the artist’s husband, is an essential part, who entered her life back in 2002, to stay. The couple began dating in 2002, and in less than two years they got engaged and broke up, all in front of the cameras, who played an essential part in their breakup.

The couple wanted to have a conversation about it and, for the first time, they speak in public about their breakup in 2004. At one point in the conversation, the actor asks his wife if she has “forgiven” him for breaking up and everything. which happened 20 years ago.

“I think I was very angry with you for a long time, but that broken heart put us both on a path to discover ourselves and be better people,” the singer begins by explaining, finally confirming that she has turned the page. “I think I’ve forgiven you until the end. I think I need to forgive myself (for) some things.”

The couple met in 2002, while filming the film Gigli, in which they were both protagonists. The crush was immediate, and they began dating. The following year, they got engaged to get married, with the date set for September 2003. However, just a few days before, the wedding was canceled due to media harassment.

The couple broke up briefly after the cancellation of their engagement, to try to resume their relationship shortly after, although without success. The final break came without remedy in January 2004.

They both rebuilt their lives shortly after. Jennifer Lopez married Puerto Rican singer Marc Anthony, father of her twins, Max and Emme (15), and whom she divorced in 2012; while Ben Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he is the father of Violet (18), Seraphina (15) and Samuel (12). The couple separated in 2015, after a decade together.

In the documentary This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, which precedes this new installment, the artist already confessed that when she separated from Affleck it was “catastrophic”, because in addition to losing the love of her life, she lost her best friend. Still, she acknowledges that they weren’t “mature enough” to manage her relationship during that time. “We weren’t prepared. What we had was real, but we weren’t there. Yet.”

However, fate seemed to have a surprise prepared for the couple. In 2021 they reconnected and, a year later, they remembered their commitment again. Finally, they ended up getting married in 2022, celebrating the dream wedding they had always dreamed of.
