Actress Thandiwe Newton, who previously worked in Hollywood as Thandie Newton, will be at the Nevermore Academy where Wednesday Adams studies. As Variety reports, like the already announced signing of Steve Buscemi, she will be one of the main new additions to the Wednesday cast.
This will be her first physical appearance on television since Westworld said goodbye to HBO with a premature cancellation in August 2022. As Maeve Millay, one of the amusement park robots, she fulfilled two primary objectives for almost any performer: obtaining applause from critics and academics, winning the Emmy for best supporting actress on television, and a high remuneration for her participation, with a salary of $250,000 per episode for the last two seasons.
Since the end of Westworld, however, Newton has kept a low profile in the audiovisual industry. The actress, also known for films such as Mission: Impossible 2, Crash or The Pursuit of Happyness, has only participated in three productions and as a voice actress: in the animated series Human Resources and Big Mouth for Netflix and in the film stop-motion Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nuggets.
For now, Newton’s role in Wednesday remains a secret, as does what the main plot of the second season of the Netflix phenomenon could be. The only details known are that the production was moved from Romania to Ireland for a matter of logistics, that Jenna Ortega will reprise the lead character and that Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the creators, remain involved as showrunners.
It makes sense for the content platform to keep any production developments secret: with 252 million views it is the most watched English-language series in the platform’s history, only surpassed by the Korean Squid Game in its global domination. and information flows and promotion possibilities must be controlled at all costs.
