The Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district has implemented a set of measures to improve the conditions of the Vallvidrera neighborhood, Tibidabo i les Planes, on the Barcelona side of the Collserola mountain range. These measures go in two directions: improving the condition of the streets and paths in this mountainous area and minimizing the damage caused by the wild boars that populate these areas and that usually approach inhabited areas in search of food.
The district has begun repair work on the pavement of ten streets in the neighborhood to improve the safety of the pavement and its accessibility, both for private traffic and public transportation. The intervention will also make it possible to define and differentiate the road space from the sidewalks, delimiting a new area for pedestrian crossing as has already been done with other actions in the neighborhood.
The works are carried out in two different areas, in the Rectoret sector and in the Baixador sector. The interventions in the Rectoret include the Rossinyols avenue, Major del Rectoret (between Marco Polo and Orellana streets), Gardenia, Marco Polo, Júpiter and Baladre streets. The Baixador sector includes the Paseo de la Vimetera, the Camí de la Font dels Pins, the Camí de la Reineta and the Camí del Mas Sauró.
The works will consist of the repair, resurfacing and signaling of several roads. First, a campaign will be carried out to repair existing deficiencies in the streets, especially the base of the pavements that are not in good condition. Subsequently, a layer of agglomerate will be laid jointly on all streets (with the exception of Calle Major del Rectoret, which will be done previously). Finally, the final horizontal signage will be executed.
The different interventions have begun this month of February and will be chained consecutively until the months of May and June, when the agglomerate work will be carried out. Each action will last approximately two weeks to make the necessary repairs. While the tasks are carried out, in the wider streets, work will be done in halves of the road allowing the passage of vehicles; On narrower streets, traffic will be completely cut off, enabling two-way traffic until the point of the cut.
Updating the pavement of these streets was a neighborhood demand that is now being responded to, thus improving this space for the neighborhood, with an investment of more than 952,000 euros.
In parallel, starting in the coming months, new actions will be carried out to discourage the presence of wild boars in mountain neighborhoods. These actions are part of the municipal strategy to address this problem, which includes different interventions such as clearing brush, training the neighborhood not to feed the animals and other measures to complicate their access to food, in this case in the garbage containers.
In mountain areas, until now, anchors and bars have been placed on containers in order to make them unapproachable for wild boars. In 2022, three wooden enclosures were added as a pilot test to achieve an even greater deterrent effect so that the wild boars do not knock over the containers and do not spill the garbage. These closures were installed on Calle de la Belladona, Plaza del Teix and at the intersection of the Aigües road and Carroç street.
Given the good results, the City Council has decided to extend these closures and will install 22 more in the Vallvidrera, Tibidabo and Les Planes neighborhoods. Its installation will begin after Easter and will last a maximum of three months.
The points where these enclosures will be placed are those spaces where a greater concentration of wild boars and a greater contribution of garbage have been detected, which is one of the elements likely to attract the attention of these animals.
The supply and installation budget is 111,652.19 euros.
