The Jury Court of the Provincial Court of Alicante has sentenced a swimming pool maintenance worker who killed a 96-year-old man who discovered him while he was in custody to permanent, reviewable prison for the crime of murder of a person who was especially vulnerable due to his age. he stole from his house.
The Court also imposes a five-year prison sentence on him for the crime of robbery with violence in an inhabited house and use of weapons. The convicted person must compensate each of the three children of the deceased with 50,000 euros, who lived in a house in Xàbia where the prisoner was in charge of maintaining and cleaning the pool for five years.
The man has been convicted after a popular jury issued a guilty verdict on February 9. The members of the court considered it proven that around two o’clock in the afternoon on December 20, 2021, the maintenance worker, who had the keys to the gate of the victim’s home due to his work, entered the house, in the who knew that there lived an elderly man with reduced mobility and poor vision.
The condemned man, who was wearing rubber gloves and a knife, began to search for valuable objects in one of the rooms of the house, when he was surprised by the old man, whom he stabbed nine times without giving him any chance of defense due to the difference in age and vision and mobility problems of the victim. Two of the wounds suffered by the deceased were necessarily fatal.
Next, the operator took a laptop valued at 220 euros belonging to the deceased. The sentence is not final and can be appealed to the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community.
