The Civil Guard has arrested a 78-year-old man after finding in his car, which had just disembarked in the port of Valencia from a ship from Algeria, a revolver loaded with ammunition, modified and without manual safety, and a knife underneath. from the driver’s seat.

The events occurred on the 19th during the disembarkation of the Bahama Mama ship at the border post of the port of Valencia, which connects the city of Mostaganem (Algeria) with the European Union.

A vehicle with a French license plate that was being driven by a citizen of Algerian origin with a French passport was identified. After identification, it was observed that the detainee showed great nervousness, as explained this Wednesday by the Civil Guard.

During the inspection of the vehicle, a knife and a detonating weapon were found under the driver’s seat. The identified person apparently had complete access to these types of weapons for “immediate” use. The Civil Guard agents took the necessary measures to secure the place and eliminate the risks that existed during the intervention.

The occupant of the vehicle lacked any type of license to carry weapons, as well as the regulatory documentation for the transport of weapons in national territory and to cross borders.

When the revolver was seized, it was necessary to open the drum and extract the cartridges, since the revolver lacked a manual safety device. It could be seen that the cartridges seized were modified in their mouth, with a ball bearing fitted. This ball acted like a bullet or projectile if hit, the sources have added.

Furthermore, when observing the bore of the weapon against the light, the agents realized that it had been modified and did not present any type of brake or obstacle, which, according to regulations, should be present. In the current situation, the hole in the barrel of the revolver could launch a projectile or bullet, making this weapon one of those classified as prohibited.

The search concluded with the discovery of a firearm, six cartridges and a knife, and the subsequent arrest for a crime of possession of weapons and a crime of possession of explosives. The proceedings have been delivered to the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 8 of Valencia.
