Singer-songwriter Cat Janice passed away from cancer last Wednesday, February 28. The artist, suffering from cancer, went viral on social networks after writing Dance You Outta My Head, inspired by her son, whom she intended to help precisely overcome the pain of her imminent death.
The singer-songwriter’s family announced the artist’s death through their Instagram account, where they confirmed that Catherine had died peacefully and surrounded by her family. “We are eternally grateful for the outpouring of love that Catherine and our family have received over the past few months.”
“Cat saw her music go places she never expected and rests in peace knowing that she will continue to support her son through her music. This would not have been possible without all of you,” the family says, through their message on the social network account, which will remain active through the artist’s brother. “Per Cat’s request, there is more art she wants to share as well.”
Cat Janice’s fight against cancer began in November 2021, when she first noticed that she had a lump on her neck, as she explained in one of her first TikTok videos. At first she downplayed it, but after almost six months, the lump was still there, bigger and harder.
After his 31st birthday, he decided to consult a doctor, who would give him the worst possible diagnosis: a sarcoma, a malignant and very rare tumor. The singer-songwriter underwent surgery, chemo and radiotherapy treatment that managed to put her in remission in the summer of 2022.
Cat continued with her music, sharing her experience and strength on social media. However, in June 2023, the worst news was confirmed: the cancer had returned and had already spread to her lungs and other vital organs. “I’m going to get treatment again. I’m going to be very strong about it,” she said. “Thank you very much to all”.
The singer-songwriter documented everything she experienced during her aggressive treatments on TikTok, from the loss of her hair to the news that the cancer was winning the battle and had tripled “overnight.”
On January 10, the singer-songwriter entered a palliative care center after having a respiratory crisis that took her to the ICU. Her only and greatest concern, as always, became her seven-year-old son, Loren. It was to him that she dedicated Dance You Outta My Head, a fun and positive song for the child to remember when she is gone.
The song has been on the charts ever since, and the artist’s family couldn’t be more grateful. “I’m not afraid because I know that I have many loved ones around me,” said the singer-songwriter, days before her death. “I leave all the profits to my son, who is very musically inclined, in the hopes of giving him the musical boost he will need later in life. I want to leave behind smiles, rhythms and joy.”
