The negotiation between Junts and the PSOE remains open with one week left before the deadline for the introduction of changes in the Amnesty law proposal and regardless of the decision made public today by the Supreme Court to investigate the former president Carles Puigdemont and ERC deputy Rubén Wagensberg for terrorism crimes. Spokesman Josep Rius appeared at a brief press conference and pointed out that JxCat maintains its line of “negotiating with total discretion. We continue – he stressed – with this way of negotiating.” He thus disassociated the PSOE contacts from the Supreme Court’s decision to open a criminal case for the Tsunami Democràtic case.

The independence leader has accused the Spanish judiciary of putting the rule of law at risk not only in Spain, but also in the EU, as well as the “exercise of the fundamental rights of citizens.” Rius wanted to emphasize that the right to demonstrate in relation to the acts of Tsunami Democràtic has been confused with a crime of terrorism. And he has indicated that the EU will not give credence to the Supreme Court’s movement.

He has been very brief when referring to the negotiation with the PSOE, hiding behind the “discretion” of the contacts. On the table is the inclusion in the bill of criminal oblivion of terrorism crimes, as proposed by Junts to shield it from the last steps of justice. An introduction that the PSOE does not view favorably, and for which it seeks alternative formulas. The negotiation, according to what has been said and not said by Junts, remains open in a context in which the inclusion of the crime of terrorism becomes even more important for this formation.

President Pere Aragonès has also made reference to the Supreme Court’s decision and on the social network X has accused the court of “having crossed all imaginable limits.” He has shown his support for Puigdemont and Wagensberg and has indicated that it cannot be normalized that the Spanish justice system plays into the hands of “the right and the extreme right.”
