Resurrected dead, witches, ghosts, Martians… Tim Burton’s universe is as exciting as it is magical. And also very well known because the filmmaker has captured it in films that have been enjoyed by several generations of viewers since Mars attacks! to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory through Edward Scissorhands or Batman.

That entire fantasy world now lands in Barcelona in the form of an immersive exhibition. Tim Burton’s labyrinth, which has already passed through Madrid, Paris and Brussels, will be installed in the Victoria Eugenia palace at the Fira de Barcelona next Friday, March 8.

The proposal, arising from LetsGo, asks the visitor to immerse themselves in Burton’s world at random. Simply press a red button that will choose one of four red doors to enter this labyrinth that reviews the Burtian universe through statues of the characters from Burton’s films built in workshops in Barcelona, ??Valencia and Extremadura.

Walking through the maze means meeting the Corpse Bride, the Joker, the Red Queen, Willy Wonka, the rogues, the little green Martians from Mars attacks or the sad Victor trying to resurrect his beloved dog Sparky.

Characters that LetsGo has placed in their natural habitat, in large sets, designed by Felype de Lina that recreate the chocolate factory that many children dreamed of in their childhood or the dark Gotham City or the gloomy underworld to which the young man is dragged. Victor when he accidentally marries the corpse bride.

Tim Burton’s Labyrinth is completed with some 200 drawings and sketches provided by the director himself, who is an accomplished illustrator and who, before getting behind the camera, always paints the storyboards for his films.

And Burton has become involved in the project to the point of becoming a partner. The brothers Iñaki and Gorka Fernández, promoters of LetsGo, a company that produces shows, especially musicals, learned that there was an exhibition about the filmmaker and tried to book it for the multicultural space Ibercaja Delicias in Madrid.

But it was impossible, because the exhibition had already booked a tour around half the world for several years. So the Fernándezes decided to create their own tribute to Burton. They contacted the director online like any other fan and were successful. Burton fell in love with the proposal, gave him his drawings and little by little he became more and more involved until he became a partner in this immersive show: “Entering the labyrinth is like entering my head,” said the director. producer.

Now the people of Barcelona will be able to enter the head of Tim Burton. And they may even get to meet Burton himself in person because his presence at the opening of the exhibition is not ruled out. The filmmaker already went to the one in Madrid and did so accompanied by his dog, because animals are another of the fundamental elements of his universe. After his stay in the Catalan capital, Burton’s labyrinth will travel to Milan and Berlin and then continue its journey through the United States.
