This Friday, Ryanair presented 9 new routes for the summer season. The company will link Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport with Cardiff and Norwich (United Kingdom), Münster (Germany), Rzeszów (Poland) and Zagreb (Croatia), Sofia (Bulgaria) and Barcelona starting this month.

Added to these new routes is the reopening of Budapest (Hungary) and the extension of Lisbon (Portugal), which will become annual routes. All routes will have two weekly flights with the exception of Cardiff, which will add a frequency on Fridays starting in May.

The general director of the airline for Spain and Portugal, Elena Cabrera, presented the news at an event held at the Alicante City Tourist Board

Cabrera has presented Ryanair’s new summer season in Alicante “with three extra aircraft to integrate a fleet of 16, a record in Alicante and in Spain for the incorporation of new aircraft, we also have 89 routes, nine of them new and we are going to have almost a million more passengers this summer for Alicante,” he explained.

“We do not stop growing in Alicante, this year with three new aircraft, last year we had 13 and the previous year 11. Since the pandemic we have functioned very well, both in winter and summer. Part of our strategy is based on deseasonalization so as not to not only to have the focus on the months of July, August and September, but also to have that connectivity in the rest of the months. And, above all, Alicante is the top 5 Spanish airports for Ryanair, knowing that it is the first airline in Europe and Spain is the second most important country, which is why Alicante is positioned in the top 10 of the regions where we operate,” stressed the general director of the airline for Spain and Portugal.

For his part, Luis Barcala has highlighted the “importance of Ryanair in the total traffic of our airport, which directly affects the increase in connections and visitors.” “Our commitment to seasonal adjustment is working and we continue to grow not only in quantity, but more importantly, in quality,” argued the first mayor.

“The data is there and we continue working to enhance the good results,” added Barcala, who has demanded “more support from the Government” and has demanded the construction of the second runway at the airport, as well as the rail connection with the city.

Likewise, Toni Pérez has valued “the alliance of the public and the private, the infrastructure and the effort that the Costa Blanca makes in that Alicante-Elche airport” and then “the trust of Ryanair that consolidates its growth year after year and that it is fundamental in our connectivity with many countries due to the synergies it generates”.

The president of the Provincial Council has also referred to the evolution of the deseasonalization of tourism on the Costa Blanca, “where we already reach occupancy of 70% or higher in months like January or February and we continue to have the capacity for growth.”
