Thanks to their spatial virtues, vehicles belonging to family segments allow traveling with superior comfort. However, they are still cars with good distance between rows of seats, notable interior width and equipped with large trunk spaces.
To travel in total comfort, minivans provide an outstanding habitat, but there is nothing comparable to multi-activity vehicles like the Ford Tourneo Courier, designed to be shared with family and friends and capable of offering practical functionalities to its occupants.
Belonging to the Tourneo range, it cannot hide its “commercial” model influences, but its image has been enhanced with very attractive details, among which the two-tone exterior finish stands out.
The unit tested by Moveo – La Vanguardia corresponds to the Titanium finish, which adds some elements that increase its attractiveness such as alloy wheels, chrome details around the grille and headlights and improved cabin features for greater comfort.
The update of the Tourneo Courier involves an optimization of its interior, now offering more space for passengers and luggage. In fact, the trunk has grown exponentially, with 44% more capacity. In general, the interior space is very well used taking into account the exterior dimensions of the vehicle, which has a length of 4.33 m.
To access the rear seats there are practical sliding doors. The rear seats can be folded down – in a 60/40 ratio – in a simple maneuver to enable a cargo space of up to 2,162 liters (volume to the roof). If we want to carry a bicycle or skis, the folded seats allow us to carry objects up to 1.4 m long inside.
The height of the cabin allows easy access and the driving position is comfortable and has good visibility. All the controls and switches are also within reach and, although it is a personal opinion, the shapes of the steering wheel are, to say the least, debatable.
We liked the presence of new compartments integrated into the side panels that allow you to store specific material so that it does not go loose, or simply to keep the rest of the trunk space clean.
Far from being a simple van, the Tourneo Courier comes standard with the technologies necessary to drive in a completely safe environment. It has assistance systems such as cruise control, wrong-way alert, intelligent speed assist, pre-collision assist, lane keeping and sign recognition.
Depending on the trim, this Ford adds other technologies such as blind spot detection, cross traffic alert, intelligent adaptive cruise control with lane change assist and intersection assistance.
The new Tourneo allows you to travel wrapped in an intense digital experience, thanks to an integrated modem that allows wireless updates. A digital display simultaneously reports speed, traffic signs, navigation alerts, etc.
Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system, controllable from the eight-inch central touchscreen, allows you to enjoy music, podcasts, navigation and other features. Other details that the vehicle’s occupants appreciate are wireless smartphone charging, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and the presence of six USB ports.
Additionally, the Tourneo Courier has more and better storage spaces on the dashboard and in the doors that allow you to carry bottles or any type of small object. A practical detail is the presence of a flap designed to keep the terminal in a safe but visible place.
Ford proposes a single gasoline engine, a one-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine, capable of developing a maximum power of 125 HP. Its response from low revs is optimal and the developments of its six-speed manual transmission allow for relaxed and efficient driving.
In real driving conditions, fuel consumption never exceeds 8 liters per 100 km. Energy efficiency is completed with the Auto Start-Stop system and active grill control.
The behavior of the Tourneo Courier is satisfactory, with a suspension that optimally maintains the compromise between comfort and efficiency, combined with a powerful braking system that incorporates ventilated front discs and rear drums. Without being a strong point of the vehicle, it is capable of linking curves of any type without showing signs of weakness.
It also performs with flying colors in urban environments, thanks to its contained exterior dimensions and its notable maneuverability. Its turning diameter between curbs of 10.7 meters is a record that facilitates its movements in small spaces.
