In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we discover in images the Romanesque hermitage of Sant Martí de Brocà, little known and hidden, within the domains of Guardiola de Berguedà.
This hermitage occupies an ideal location to enjoy the fantastic views of the Lillet and Bastareny valleys with the Cadí as a backdrop.
Although it is known that this hermitage was property of the monastery of Sant Llorenç, located near Bagà, it was originally the church of Brocà castle and later became a parish. It was consecrated in 1081 and was renovated during the 18th and 19th centuries.
The hermitage has a single nave covered with a slightly pointed barrel vault and a semicircular apse. On the wall of the triumphal arch stands a small bell tower with a single opening. The entrance door is located in the south wall.
But, it so happens that Brocà Castle is currently missing. It is believed that it could have been located on the site of the farmhouse called El Castell, above the hermitage or in the mountain range overlooking Guardiola de Berguedà.
