In a very short time, Karol G has become one of the Latin American artists with the greatest potential on the world music scene. Although the Medellín singer’s career is not as extensive as that of other contemporaries, she has known how to play her cards and become number 1 in record time. Her single Contigo, composed in collaboration with the renowned Dutch DJ Tiësto, is proof of this.

Such success attracts fame, headlines, comments and many followers, some more restrained and others completely unconditional. Such is the case that situations can occur that are out of place, or that end up uncovering details of one’s private life without meaning to. That was what happened to her on March 3 during a concert in Guatemala, when a fan’s banner made her confess that she was “engaged.”

“Karol, my husband wants to leave me for you,” read the sign that could be read in Guatemala City this Sunday, to the surprise of the Colombian woman. However, what the public did not expect at all was Karol’s response, which provoked a loud reaction: “But I’m already committed. But if he wants to leave her for me, he better get someone else.” The comment added in a joking tone did not divert attention from that viral confession.

Many reactions on X (Twitter) included images of shock and celebration, coming mainly from international fans. The main suspicion is that Karol G was engaged to Feid, another singer from Medellín with whom she has been associated for some time. However, the Colombians soon quelled the euphoria and were responsible for pointing out that those words had a different meaning outside their borders.

“In Colombia, saying engaged is a way of saying that you are engaged,” said one user, while the replicas multiplied. “Did you really assume that Karol G was going to get married because she said she was engaged? Do you know that people sometimes say that just to let it be known that they have a partner? Like ‘No thanks, I’m already engaged.’ The media and their things,” another user answered.

This possible relationship, which neither of them confirmed, was hidden in the background by the tragedy that took place after the concert. During an argument, a 33-year-old man opened fire on two other men after an argument, killing them both and a pregnant woman, hit by a stray bullet. The incident took place a few meters from the United States embassy in Guatemala City.
