Survivors 2024 has officially started. This means that Jorge Javier Vázquez has returned to television after taking a break following the failure in audiences of Cuentos Chinos, the program that Telecinco had devised to compete with El Hormiguero.
This is a safe bet for the Catalan presenter. Jorge Javier already has several editions of Survivientes behind him and knows perfectly well that the survival reality show is one of the network’s flagships. “I’m very happy to be with you again, I’ve missed you,” he said in his first television appearance in months.
And, for that reason, he wanted to make a small reference to the years in which he was the undisputed king of television. During the first jump from the helicopter, which was for Arantxa del Sol, Jorge Javier surprised the spectators by ensuring that he felt a special predilection for the presenter.
So, he has spoken with great sarcasm about the programs that were canceled in 2023 and the long months of rest he has had until the start of Survivors: “I’m going to tell you. I have a special affection for Arantxa del Sol because I, like She was also on TV.”
The Catalan was convinced that he was one of the biggest stars on television and that nothing could beat him. However, Jorge Javier hit rock bottom in 2023 when his two television projects fell through.
The first program to be canceled was Sálvame and its entire associated universe. This hooligan space faded over time and Telecinco decided to cancel it permanently after the drop in audience and the great controversies it had been dragging on for some time. Since then, Así es la vida and TardeAR have acted as substitutes.
Another project that did not meet expectations, not even Jorge Javier’s own, was Cuentos Chinos, a bet by Telecinco to gain lost ground. But after very few weeks on screen, the network abruptly canceled it due to its low audience data. Not only did it not come close to El Hormiguero, but the data got worse.
