In order to have healthy, beautiful-looking hair, we strive to find the products that best suit our hair type. But the truth is that how we wash our hair has an effect on the result that goes beyond the product itself.

A priori, the proper order of hair care products in the shower is to start with shampoo, then apply conditioner and, once or twice a week, a mask. Well, it turns out that if you use the conditioner before shampooing, you will achieve healthier, more well-groomed, softer hair that will gain volume.

When you wash your hair, contact with water – especially if it is very hot –, friction and shampoo components cause damage to the hair fibers and cuticles. The damage is even greater if your hair is already damaged, since the hair is more porous and the water penetrates more, worsening its condition and appearance.

The conditioner serves the purpose of repairing and nourishing the hair, leaving it softer and restoring the hair fibers. Precisely for this reason, it is very beneficial to apply conditioner to your hair before shampooing. In this way, your hair is nourished and protected from contact with the water and shampoo that you will apply later, minimizing its negative impact on the health of your hair.

But this is not the only point in favor of applying conditioner before shampoo. If you have fine or oily hair, it is common for conditioner residue to leave your hair limp, weighed down, and not as clean as you would like. On the other hand, if you put on the conditioner first, rinse it thoroughly and then wash your head with the shampoo, you will completely eliminate the remains of the product, resulting in a more voluminous and clean hair.

In short, using the conditioner before shampooing will help you have much softer, healthier, hydrated and shiny hair, as well as more volume and body.
