RTVE has removed the latest episode of Masterchef from its digital catalog and social networks. This decision comes after a series of criticisms that included comments from the Minister of Health, Mónica García, criticizing the actions of Jordi Cruz, one of the jury members, towards Tamara, who decided to leave the contest for mental health reasons.
To try to calm the waters, the corporation has issued a statement through its X account, in which they have regretted the situation that occurred in the program: “We regret the broadcast of content that should not have happened. The management has reinforced internal controls to avoid similar episodes. RTVE reiterates its commitment to mental health.
Although RTVE has wanted to stop the program and destroy any evidence of what happened, some users have not been satisfied with this measure. In this sense, there are those who have asked that the program be eliminated permanently or that, at least, the jury be renewed to avoid situations like this: “New blood.”
Tamara, in justifying her departure from the competition, pointed out that her well-being was more important than continuing in the competition, despite the disappointment it could cause to her classmates, the judges and the rest of the team. “I feel very frustrated and I don’t want to continue the dynamic in which I am not well. Forgive me, but it is more important to be well than to disappoint you,” explained the contestant.
For his part, Jordi Cruz, when asking Tamara to hand over her apron, responded coldly, which showed the Catalan’s lack of interest in discussing his decision: “I wouldn’t ask you any questions, I would just say very good, ciao. “You have taken away people’s opportunities,” said the chef. Samantha Vallejo-Nágera, who has also received many negative comments, was not very successful either.
Given the avalanche of criticism that this incident has aroused, in parallel, RTVE has been forced to review and strengthen its internal policies regarding how delicate situations are handled in its programs, focusing on the protection of the mental health of the participants and in avoiding the repetition of errors in future programs.
