Despite the uncertainty in Spanish politics, pending what Pedro Sánchez will announce on Monday, the leader of the PP maintains all his campaign events in Catalonia this weekend. This is what he underlined yesterday from the, where he pointed out his commitment to the Catalans. Alberto Núñez Feijóo marked the strategy of the PP, with a harsh criticism of the president of the Spanish Government, of whom he considered that “his authoritarian tics have not been seen in Spain since the Franco regime”.
The populists denounce in the first place the “selfishness of Sánchez”, who see him locked up in Moncloa projecting his judicial problems on the heads of the Spaniards. The head of the Executive has given a period of reflection on his future after this week a judge accepted the complaint by Manos Limpias against his wife, Begoña Gómez.
It is this attitude that, in accordance with what Feijóo said, emerges from the fact of “believing oneself to be superior, of being part of an elite that does not have to submit to justice” which intersects with authoritarianism. “Whatever position you hold, you are subject to the Spanish courts, otherwise there is no democracy. We are facing an authoritarian that we have not seen in the history of Spain since Franco”, he remarked.
The PP counterattacks with the same weapons that, in its opinion, the PSOE is using, which accuses the right and the ultra-right of wanting to undermine the rule of law with the Manos Limpias complaint against Gomez. Feijóo thus marked his line of opposition on the ground of democratic principles. And he said that attacking the “judges, the press, is resigning from democracy”
From Catalonia, both Feijóo and the candidate Alejandro Fernández drew a parallel between the attitudes of Sánchez and Carles Puigdemont, since they understand that both transfer their personal problems to the public, instead of dealing with the matters that concern them for their position. Attitudes they described as “selfish and narcissistic”.
The popular candidate asked the Catalans to send the two presidents to the dustbin of history on 12-M to open a new stage of “coexistence, freedom and equality”. In the programmatic area, Alejandro Fernández opted for “tax moderation”, with the abolition of inheritance and donation taxes, and the reduction of the regional income tax brackets. The formula for the companies that left during the process to return, he said, is to provide legal and political security and put an end to “fiscal hell”.
