The Community of Madrid celebrates autonomous community day on May 2. They will celebrate their big day with an extensive program for all audiences, with Puerta del Sol as the main stage.
There will be music concerts with different styles, from the most traditional Goya folklore, zarzuela, historical recreations, theater and dance, to ‘break dance’ or the music of OBK, to the Polish Girl, among many other proposals.
As for the activities, the historical recreation by the Historical-Cultural Association Volunteers of Madrid 1808-1814 stands out, which will take place on May 2 in various settings in the capital such as the Plazas Mayor and Plaza de Oriente. Hundreds of people, horses, carriages and cannons will participate in a unique representation, which will include a civil-military parade, the defense of the Monteleón barracks or the Events of the Plaza de Oriente.
The concerts and shows at Puerta del Sol, with free access until capacity is reached, will turn this emblematic square into one of the epicenters of this cultural event. AND
On Tuesday 1st it will be the turn of the Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid (Orcam), which will share with the public a selection of the most famous songs of Spanish zarzuela such as ‘La verbena de la Paloma’ or ‘La chulapona’.
The afternoon will be dedicated to moving arts and indie music bands. Firstly, the Dani Pannullo company, a pioneer in contemporary urban dance in Spain, will offer ‘Battle Break Dance’. And at night, it will be time to enjoy the Polish Girl group.
Already on Thursday, May 2, the Arrabel Cultural Association of Music and Dance will perform traditional songs and melodies from the Community of Madrid accompanied by percussion, string and wind instruments. For its part, the Francisco de Goya Choirs and Dances Association will star in a show of Goyesque dances in Madrid. The concert series in Sol will culminate with a performance by the group OBK.
The Teatros del Canal will host the singer Clara Montes in the Red Room on May 2, who will pay tribute to the work of the writer Antonio Gala.
That same day, various municipal bands will perform concerts in Alcalá de Henares, Casarrubuelos, Collado Villalba, Galapagar, Pozuelo de Alarcón, San Martín de la Vega and Torrelodones. In addition, the Madrid Live Rooms participate in the celebration through emblematic spaces, such as Clamores y Maravillas, Café Central, Rincón del Arte Nuevo or Café Berlin, among many others.
And the cultural spaces of the Community will have an extensive program of theater, music, film and dance. Thus, for example, the Royal Coliseum of Carlos III of San Lorenzo de El Escorial will present the shows ‘The Summer Follies’ by Carlo Goldoni and ‘The Prodigiosa Zapatera’, by Manuel Segovia.
