Matadero Madrid, a space dependent on the Area of ??Culture, Tourism and Sports, will host chotis workshops, to delight lovers of dance and Madrid tradition, as a prelude to the San Isidro 2024 festivities.
The City Council has indicated that next Tuesday, May 7, the Federation of Traditional Madrid Groups will give these free workshops, for which it will be necessary to register in advance, starting this Friday, at 12 noon.
Under the guidance of chulapos and chulapas experts of chotis, 300 participants will enjoy an initiation workshop to the rhythm of the most emblematic music of the capital, to put their new skills into practice in the activities scheduled between May 10 and 15, on the occasion of the capital’s patron saint’s day.
The Popular and Castizo Madrid section of the San Isidro Festival program includes participatory and intergenerational dance encounters, such as ‘Madrid: Dance with us!’, on May 11, at 12 noon, in the Jardines de las Vistillas, and ‘Come dance with us’ on May 15, at 7:30 p.m., in the San Isidro Park.
Likewise, on the 11th, at 12 noon, in the Plaza Mayor, the third edition of ‘Bailando por Madrid’ will take place; the 40th Madrid Dance Festival on the 15th, at the same time and in the same place, as well as zarzuela, Spanish dance and regional dance shows.
Matadero Madrid, in addition to the workshops, which will take place next Tuesday in Nave 16, in two shifts, between 6 and 8 p.m., will host on the 12th and 14th a popular festival for all tastes and ages, with organ, organ grinder and traditional games.
Furthermore, in order for there to be more chulapos and chulapas on the streets and stages of the parties, the Madrid City Council, in collaboration with the Association of Fashion Creators of Spain (ACME), has offered citizens the patterns to make the chulapo suit and chulapa dress.
