The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has announced this Friday that MEP Dolors Montserrat (Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, 1973) will be the leader of the party’s list in the elections to the European Parliament that will be held in Spain on Sunday, June 9 . The Catalan leader will repeat, therefore, as the electoral poster of the popular.
Feijóo made this announcement at a 12-M campaign event in Figueres (Girona) but expressly designed to launch the candidacy in front of the Dalí Museum. She has highlighted the relevance that her training gives to the fact that it is a Catalan woman, “Catalan to the core”, who leads her list in Europe while highlighting the work done by Montserrat in the European Parliament against “the independence movement, against sanchismo, in favor of the rule of law and freedom of the press.”
Catalonia, the popular leader has pointed out, “will represent all of Spain in the European Parliament”, an election that, as he explained, symbolizes the importance that the PP gives to its involvement and implementation in Catalonia, and to the project throughout Spain.
A commitment, with a view to the future and where she wanted to emphasize that no one has to explain to Dolors Montserrat what it means to be Catalan, or what her land is. The candidate also took the floor to thank Feijóo for his appointment and indicated her commitment to “defend the Spanish and Catalans in Europe” and also fight against the privileges sought by “fugitives and those who want to remain in power, like Puigdemont and Sánchez.”
He has committed that the job of the candidacy will continue to be to send the message that Spain does not endorse Sánchez’s “shame”, in a great country that has a “terrible government.” He recalled the work of the popular people in Europe in denouncing the amnesty.
The appointment of Dolors Montserrat was expected after her work in this legislature, and Feijóo wanted to carry it out in the middle of the Catalan campaign. On the 9th, the entire candidacy for the European elections will be presented in Barcelona.
