Alaska and Mario Vaquerizo make up one of the most recognized couples in the world of television and music in Spain. It is common to see them in different programs. In fact, the interpreter of Who Cares has reappeared in El Hormiguero to promote the animated film Garfield, in which she lends her voice to the character of Jinx. During the conversation with the presenter, Pablo Motos, she revealed the secrets of her relationship with Mario Vaquerizo after 25 years together.
Olvido Gara (that’s the artist’s real name), came to our country when she was just a girl. She came from Mexico, and had to adapt to a totally different culture. She was always clear that her passion was music, so at the age of 16 she formed the group ‘Alaska y los Pegamoides’, which would end up being one of the most famous in the Madrid punk rock scene. With them, Nacho Canut, Carlos Berlanga, Ana Curra and Eduardo Benavente released the song Bailando, the first hit of many.
This Thursday, the artist reappeared in El Hormiguero, where she received the infinity card for having visited the program 20 times. Using her charisma that identifies her, she revealed some details about Garfield, her new project. However, Pablo Motos wanted to know new things about the artist. The presenter then asked him about a trip that Alaska takes every ten years with some friends. “We have a kind of personal getaway that helps the three of us reconnect with the world. To do things that suit us better. It is a kind of psychoanalysis that helps us situate ourselves a little in life,” she said.
This is his way with his friends to get together and do something different. “Some people do it with a confessor, others meditate, others go out to party,” she said then. Then, Pablo Motos asked her if Mario Vaquerizo also goes on these trips with her. “No, he doesn’t belong to her,” she said.
It was then that the artist opened up about her relationship. “There are areas that even a couple that is about to turn 25 has to respect. Mario needs to be with his friends, he would like me to be there. I don’t. “Everyone needs their own things and we have to respect that,” she said, revealing one of the reasons why their relationship works. Pablo Motos agreed with him, explaining that “there are areas of the other person that you cannot enter and should not.”
On the other hand, the artist was honest about the different personalities and moments of conflict as a couple. “Mario jumps. He tells you. He tells you everything. He tells you again. When he finishes, Mario is very calm and I have four days ahead of me in which I am sulking,” Alaska expressed. “Everyone is as they are and you have to adapt. It’s not a bad thing. But, in the end, either you are in love or you are not in love. It is that total and sad when it stops happening,” she said.
As for the couple, they both got married more than two decades ago. Their first wedding was celebrated in Las Vegas. Although their marriage has not always been easy, they have formed one of the most stable couples on the national scene since they met back in 1999. And if they give something to the public every time they reappear on television together, it is ‘show’.
