In May, some Barcelona neighborhoods wanted to pay tribute to tapas, which with the arrival of good weather is more desirable than ever. Among them, Sant Antoni, which from this Friday until June 9 celebrates its tapas route.
Like other years, the bars and restaurants associated with Sant Antoni Comerç will offer a bite and a drink for 3.80 euros. There will also be the option of ordering a more complete dish, although in this case the offer will cost 12 euros.
Jiribilla, the restaurant with which chef Gerard Bellver returned to Barcelona 28 years after his family moved to Mexico, is one of the participating establishments and offers a tongue taco with ñora marinade.
The Catalan cuisine establishment Can Vilaró has also signed up, with a sardine from the coast with toast; the Italian delicatessen Doppieta, which will offer an asparagus “arancino” with confit tomato mayonnaise; or Fàbrica Moritz, which has prepared a calçot croquette with romesco. Even the pet food store Only Raw has joined the initiative with a kefir snack for dogs.
The organizers remember that participating businesses will serve their tapas on certain days of the week and at specific times, which can be consulted on the Tapantoni website. Also on this portal it is possible to access a form where those attending the route can vote for their favorite dish and win up to 300 euros to spend in neighborhood establishments. Uploading a photograph of a drink ticket in one of the bars and restaurants that collaborate in the initiative is an essential requirement to participate in the contest.
This weekend also ends the Hotel Tapa Tour, the party in which Barcelona’s large hotels open their doors to locals and tourists to try their tapas with pairings for a price of between 9 and 14 euros. The proposals are based on the most iconic dishes of the participating hotel restaurants, which have up to four options: a national tapa, another fusion, a signature croquette and/or a sweet bite.
Like the establishments that are part of the initiative, the dishes you can choose from are very varied. From a bar of Galician blonde and green mojo, a fair potato with cod cococha and a pulled beef brioche to a Balfegó bluefin tuna civet croquette, a beef fricandó with perrechicos and a fluffy pancake. These preparations can be accompanied with wine or cava, as well as water.
