After Red Bull’s announcement about the departure of Newey, who will leave the Milton Keynes team after almost two decades, in which he played a crucial role in the design of the cars that led Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen to win multiple titles.
However, amid the internal tensions that have divided Red Bull since earlier this year, Newey felt the time was right to part ways with the team. Despite this, the engineer is in no hurry to make the decision and he still needs time to do so.
In the face of considerable interest from Ferrari, the 65-year-old has stated that, at the moment, he has “no plans” to join another competing team as he feels the need to take some time away from the series.
Lawrence Stroll, head of the Aston Martin team, has made no secret of his desire to sign one of the greatest minds in the entire F1 paddock. The billionaire has already put a succulent offer on Newey’s table to join and work alongside Fernando Alonso to take a step forward on the grid.
“Formula 1 absorbs everything and I have been immersed in it for a long time,” Adrian Newey told Sky Sports F1.
“The year 2021 was really hectic due to the intense battle with Mercedes throughout the entire season, at the same time that I dedicated all my efforts to the research and development of the RB18, which is the father of this new generation of cars,” said the engineer.
