The Madrid Ministry of Health, led by Fátima Matute, is offering nurses from different centers to come to work at the Enfermera Isabel Zendal public Hospital with some advantages, such as interim contracts, CCOO denounces. When that category in some centers, such as the Doctor Rodríguez Lafora psychiatric hospital, located on the Colmenar highway, has been prohibited since last February 12.
The government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso intends to convert the hospital created for Covid, Zendal, into a reference center for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). For now, there are 40 professionals working, including nurses, assistants, guards, speech therapists, doctors, among other specialists, but more positions need to be filled.
Madrid has invested 1.2 million to adapt the Zendal hospital facilities to the new use they intend to give it.
In fact, a few days ago the first patients arrived, but the idea is to cover the daily needs of 60 patients a day, as well as their caregivers, at the same time as offering specialized outpatient services.
CCOO denounces that since they cannot offer better salaries, since they must adhere to the established salary tables, they offer these professionals other advantages, such as interim contracts to motivate them to be willing to go to work at said hospital.
At the same time, the CCOO Health spokesperson in Madrid denounces that other centers such as the Doctor Rodríguez Lafora psychiatric hospital “have been left without 20 nurses for more than 300 patients with mental health disorders.” “Of a staff of 114 nurses, if 20 are missing, it represents 17.54%,” she says. The reason? 10 are on sick leave, one waiting to be operated on, one has been transferred to the mental health and addictions coordination team, 3 have two contracts at 50% of the day, another has obtained a transfer to Andalusia and another is released by union representation with 80% of the day.
From CCOO they remember that the World Health Organization recommends between 6 and 8 patients per nurse and in psychiatric hospitalization centers that the ratio be higher. “You cannot take professionals from one center to another; “But what should be done is new hires,” the union states.
