The artistic community and residents of Alpedrete are dismayed after the elimination of tributes to the legendary actors Paco Rabal and Asunción Balaguer by the local City Council.

The decision, made by the current municipal government led by the Popular Party and VOX, has generated a wave of criticism and concern in the population, as well as in the family of the deceased artists.

Teresa Rabal, daughter of Paco Rabal and Asunción Balaguer, expressed her indignation and perplexity at this measure on the TVE program ‘Mañaneros’. She highlighted above all the lack of understanding with the city council’s decision and pointed out that she perceives a political undertone in this action. “This happened to my parents today, but this will continue. “They are going to continue removing people from the culture.”

The artist also revealed that both she and her brother, Benito Rabal, will reject any compensation offered by the city council while the same government is in power. She criticized the lack of consultation with the people and the opposition before making this unilateral decision, which she considers an affront to the memory of her parents and her legacy in Spanish culture.

In her statements, Teresa Rabal also recalled with emotion the personality and kindness of her parents, categorically denying the idea that there is any personal reason for hatred towards them. She stressed that Paco Rabal and Asunción Balaguer were “exemplary and respectful neighbors,” whose only political characteristic was progressive thinking that never disrespected anyone.

This situation has generated a mobilization in Alpedrete, where family, friends and neighbors are organizing a proposal to restore tributes to the actors in the town. In addition, they have the support of other artists, such as Lolita, who denounced on her social networks the lack of respect for the memory of the performers and defended the importance of preserving democracy and cultural legacy.
