Hours before the Met Gala, Anna Wintour confessed in an interview with Today that the dress code she had chosen for the 2024 edition could have generated confusion among the guests and their stylists. The title of the exhibition that opened on Monday, May 6, was Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, while the dress code chosen to walk the red carpet was The Garden of Time. garden of time), a theme that, for the first time, was not limited to the name chosen for the exhibition.

The editor of Vogue and director of the Fashion Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has organized the Met Gala since 1995, also played on the sidelines with her look. She limited herself to answering with a “possibly” about whether she was going to wear flowers and her loyal followers expected that it would be Chanel who would sign her styling, but her arrival at the event was quite a surprise.

Wintour was captured leaving her apartment in a simple white dress that she combined with a diamond necklace. Minutes later, she appeared on the steps of the Met wearing a beautiful black coat that was not signed by the French maison but by Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe.

The British editor thus replaced Chanel with a Spanish brand, a designer change that has occurred on very few occasions since she presided over the gala, such as the 2012 edition that was dedicated to Schiaparelli and Prada and where Wintour wore a white dress with a golden Prada lobster.

The businesswoman stepped onto the red carpet in a classic-style black coat that stood out for its embossed yellow and red tulips. A delicate design, made to measure, that was inspired by one of the garments in the exhibition: a cape made by Charles Frederick Worth, considered the father of haute couture. Wintour completed her look with her iconic bob cut with bangs and, this time, without her sunglasses.

It should be noted that Loewe is one of the sponsoring firms of the exhibition hosted by the New York museum and that its designer, Jonathan Anderson, is honorary host.
