The Spanish men’s basketball coach, Sergio Scariolo, and the coach of the women’s team, Miguel Méndez, will continue in their position until 2028. This was announced by Elisa Aguilar to the media, after being re-elected as president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB).

The renewals of both had been agreed for weeks. However, they have not been confirmed until Aguilar’s re-election as president. The Madrid native, who has held the position since October 2023, was re-elected this Tuesday as she was the only candidate, and she will also continue in office until 2028.

Scariolo is living his second stage at the head of the men’s team with one goal in mind, to qualify the Spanish team for the Paris Games. To do this, they must secure a place in the Valencia Pre-Olympic, from July 2 to 7.

During his two stages with Spain, the Brescia coach has achieved two Olympic medals (silver in London 2012 and bronze in Rio 2016), a World Cup gold (China 2019) and five European metals (four golds and one bronze).

For his part, Méndez took office in 2021, and has already been able to achieve European silver. Likewise, and unlike the men’s team, the Spanish women’s team has guaranteed its place in the Games, after obtaining one of the three tickets awarded by the Hungarian Pre-Olympic Championship.
