The streets of Girona are dressed with people after the rains on the verge of a new edition of Temps de Flors, which promises complete success. The umbrella will be replaced by flowers after the last necessary rainfall to alleviate the drought.
As can be seen in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos, preparations are already being made for Temps de Flors, such as on the steps of the cathedral.
According to the organization, this year Girona, Temps de Flors “not only offers a spectacular floral display, but also takes a firm step in the fight against drought.”
Aware of the challenges that Catalonia faces due to climate change and decreased rainfall, the City Council and the festival organization have implemented various measures “to promote awareness and conservation of water resources.”
In this way, this year “special emphasis has been placed on the choice of flowers and plants” and “those that require less water for maintenance” have been selected. Likewise, “native species and plants adapted to dry climates have been prioritized.” In this way, the demand for water will be significantly reduced.
