Therefore, it is very important to know what type of helmet is ideal according to our circumstances and how we can take care of it so that it always remains as good as the first day.

Cleaning the helmet correctly and regularly helps to extend its useful life, ensuring that its properties remain intact for as long as possible. In this way, we must be careful to eliminate dirt that adheres both to the inside and outside of the case, whether insects, mud (in the case that we practice enduro or motocross) and impurities that give it a texture. sticky.” Below, we show a series of recommendations to effectively care for our motorcycle helmet.

First of all, we have to be aware of the importance of the helmet for driving and that its care must be regular, maintained through a daily routine. Therefore, it is most advisable to wear the helmet in the case, since prolonged exposure to the sun, cold or rain can accelerate the deterioration of its materials. Likewise, we must avoid hitting it, as far as possible; and do not use it to store smaller objects, such as keys or gloves, as they can damage or dirty its interior padding.

Furthermore, it is necessary to remember that we should not modify or paint it because it is essential not to obstruct visibility or affect the ventilation capacity of the helmet. These types of customizations can increase the risk of accidents and endanger driver safety.

Once you are aware of daily maintenance, regular cleaning of the helmet is another important factor to take into account. What should we consider in this regard? The first thing is to know the materials that make up the helmet and, therefore, use products that adapt to the different needs. In this sense, it is advisable to read the manufacturer’s instructions, stay away from the generic products offered on the market and use neutral or specific soaps for cleaning each area.

A key space in the helmet is the screen, since if we ride with it dirty we will reduce visibility, increasing the risk of accident. At the same time, it is very delicate, so we must take special care when cleaning it. It is not made of glass, so it is not advisable to use the classic supermarket glass cleaners. Instead, it is better to use a pH neutral soap or specific products for screens.

In order not to damage it while cleaning it, we must avoid scratching the remains of attached insects. In your case, it is better to moisten the screen with warm water and wait for it to soften. Afterwards, it will be gently rubbed with a sponge (not a scouring pad) containing the soapy solution. In order to reach all the corners and prevent the inside of the helmet from getting damp, we can choose to dismantle the screen very carefully. Thus, we will have greater maneuverability and we will be able to clean it well on both sides. Finally, to dry it, it will be a good option to use a cotton cloth.

In addition, there are special cleaning wipe kits, as well as specific sprays or sprays that are marketed in order to contribute to the care of motorcycle helmets.

For its part, for the interior of the helmet to be properly preserved, the pads must be cleaned. Of course, less frequently, so that we avoid accelerated deterioration. Likewise, washing should be done by hand, with a detergent for delicate garments or a neutral soap, and without rubbing. Then, it is important to rinse the pads with enough water and wait for them to dry completely, in a space away from the sun, before placing them back inside the helmet.
