Korean series have become an audiovisual phenomenon that is sweeping the world. Thanks to the wide range of streaming platforms that exist today, we can enjoy a multitude of content from different parts of the world. And one of the most in-demand contents with the largest number of followers are Korean series.

For this reason, it is increasingly common for streaming platforms to buy the broadcast rights of these fictions for their extensive catalogue. One of the video on demand services that is most committed to this type of content is Netflix. The red giant continues to be one of the main distributors of this type of series that sweep practically all countries.

An example of this is the latest Korean series that everyone is talking about and that is about to put an end to its frenetic story: The Queen of Tears. The fiction premiered on March 23 on the platform and will end its adventure this coming weekend with the launch of its last two chapters.

The Queen of Tears stars Kim Ji Won and Soo-hyun and tells the story of the seemingly perfect marriage formed by Hong Hae-in, the cold heiress of the Queens Group business group, and the company’s director, Baek Hyeon-woo. However, their relationship is not as idyllic as they want the public to believe, since their personalities are completely opposite. This marital conflict leads the protagonists to rethink their entire lives and put something completely unthinkable on the table: divorce.

Following the premiere of The Queen of Tears, many have claimed that the miniseries has an enormous resemblance to the real story of the heiress of the Samsung brand. The controversial marriage between Lee Boo Jin, the second daughter of the president of the multinational conglomerate Samsung, Lee Kun Hee, and Im Woo Jae generated many headlines and starred in numerous covers in the late 1990s.

The relationship between the daughter of the owner of Samsung and the company worker was not well regarded by public opinion, causing enormous criticism of their love story. And many did not accept that the heiress of the business conglomerate married a person of ‘low social class’. Despite public pressure, Lee Boo Jin and Im Woo Jae continued their marriage and started a family. However, their relationship did not go as expected and in 2019 they both separated, leading to one of the most high-profile divorces in the country.
