David Summers, singer of Hombres G, officially welcomed this Thursday to the San Isidro 2024 Festivities in Madrid, the city where he was born 60 years ago. From the balcony of the Casa de la Villa, together with the mayor, the delegates of the municipal government and the spokespersons of the different groups, he has claimed his “rootedness” to the city. These are some phrases from his speech:
– “This is the sky where my dreams took flight, the stage of my concert.”
– “I think this is one of its secrets that makes it so special, that Madrid is made up of everyone and that is why those of us who are from here, as I told you before, are from everywhere. “Life is those photos that we have saved in our heads.”
– “[Memories without songs are] like a warm beer, it doesn’t stick”
– “Images that we have later turned into songs for you, to share, and so that you would also have a soundtrack of your life here in Madrid. It is a source of pride when we go on tour around the world and they ask us if we are from Madrid. Because their faces are filled with magic, they look at you differently, they envy you and they immediately tell you that they came or that they are dying to come.”
– “I always take a little sadness from Madrid that doesn’t go away until I return. That’s called rooting. Rooting is the action of taking root. We do that on the ground we walk on but especially on the ground we live on.”
– “I am from Madrid and being from this city you already know that it is like being a little bit from everywhere, this kind of train station of which we are the last stop, where my journey begins and which is always my last destination”
– “Madrid has given shape and meaning to my life. We met there many years ago, four brothers, who gave me life in this city. And here I stole all the kisses, I found the laughter, the tears, the loves and colors that have allowed me to do what is probably the only thing I am going to do.”
– “The art and craft of any way of making songs, has always had the obligatory place to conquer in this house. Because in Madrid is where everything happened, because in Madrid is where everything happens”
– “You cannot understand the history of Hombres G without Madrid, but neither can mine”
