Canyoning has claimed its third fatality in less than a month in the province of Huesca. On this occasion, it was that of a 47-year-old man from San Sebastián, who lost his life this Thursday afternoon after falling from a height of 35 meters while rappelling in a canyon in the municipality of Yésero, in the region. As reported by the Civil Guard, the alert was raised yesterday around 5:24 p.m. when a member of the group of mountaineers reported that one of his companions had fallen while rappelling and had been left unconscious on the stones.

After the warning, the agents activated the Panticosa Greim, the Huesca Air Unit and the 061 doctor. After flying over the area, they located the canyoner, who presented signs incompatible with life.

The body was evacuated to the aircraft and transferred to the nearest heliport, where the funeral services were waiting for its subsequent evacuation to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Huesca to perform the autopsy.

The deceased canyoner’s name was Javier Braojos and he was a national police officer born in Madrid who now worked in San Sebastián, although until the summer of last year he was stationed at the Jaca police station (Huesca).

From the police union Jupol they have conveyed their condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the victim, in addition to expressing their gratitude to the Greim specialists of the Civil Guard “for their professionalism in all circumstances.”
