A couple of Mossos d’Esquadra agents found the lifeless body of a person floating in the Urgell canal as it passed through the municipality of Anglesola (Urgell), on this Monday morning.

The agents’ notification was given around 10:50 in the morning and after eleven o’clock, the Firefighters proceeded to remove the body from the water. According to Mossos d’Esquadra sources consulted by La Vanguardia, she is an octogenarian woman and initially there are no signs of criminality in the death. In this sense, she has proceeded to perform an autopsy and an investigation has been opened to try to clarify the facts.

According to the Catalan police, the victim could be related to the report of the disappearance of an elderly woman in Artesa de Segre – about 30 kilometers from the scene – and that the family alerted 112 this Thursday night to observe that he did not return to his home. The pair of agents who found the body in the Urgell canal, this Friday morning, were carrying out tracking tasks in the search operation for a woman of about 80 years old.

Several units of Mossos d’Esquadra have been activated for the lifting of the body, including a helicopter, the canine unit and Citizen Security and Public Order in the area.
