The chronicle of an announced farewell was written and published this Friday that was advancing towards twilight.
Three days after the Parc des Princes tragedy, Kylian Mbappé (25) said he will leave PSG. From this episode, there were no more arguments left for the club or its star striker, once the heat of this fire was extinguished. Both need a recasting, an overhaul, whatever you want to call it.
The French talent communicated his farewell yesterday, through social networks, in a video of almost four minutes, as leisurely as it was definitive, which soon circulated through all the groups, adding fuel to the bettors’ fire: Mbappé is leaving , but he has not said where, with Madrid as the favourite.
“It’s a challenge after seven years (in Paris). I had never thought how difficult it would be to announce it: to leave my country (France), Ligue 1, a championship I have always known, but I think I need a new challenge”, said Mbappé, in a farewell that was a news deferred since February.
It was then that he met with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the owner of the French club, to say goodbye to him at the end of the season.
“PSG is a club that does not leave anyone indifferent. You can love it or hate it. I chose to love him and I have never regretted signing for the club in these seven years. It is a club that I will always remember. Throughout my life I will say that I had the opportunity to play here – added the French talent, a footballer who generates contradictory feelings: so fabulous and charismatic, as defenseless, football-wise, at some moments -: It was me, with my virtues and my flaws, but I tried to give my best version during these seven years. I hope we end this season with one last trophy. Ici c’est Paris (club motto) and au revoir”.
Since then, since February, the relationship between the Frenchman and the club, and also with Luis Enrique: the coach had relativized the value of Mbappé, sometimes relegating him to the bench (it was not so in the decisive meeting of the semi-finals of the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund, perhaps the end of this vaudeville).
His departure, with an uncertain destination, definitively closes the story of the magical trident that the Parisians had managed to gather (Messi, Neymar, Mbappé), and which never took root completely.
Today, Messi dribbles in Miami and Neymar, injured, wanders around lying on a sofa in Saudi Arabia.
I Mbappé?
Mbappé, top scorer in the club’s history (255 goals, ahead of Cavani and Ibrahimovic), leaves with six Ligue 1 titles and none of the Champions League, possibly the duty that the Parisians will deny him. This puts an end to this galactic PSG, a product made on the basis of petrodollars, a mirage for fans, a prison for stars and a waste for sheiks.
