Switzerland won the Eurovision Song Contest this Saturday, obtaining the greatest support from the participating countries. The song ‘The Code’ gave the victory to Nemo, a young non-binary man who makes history at the festival by becoming the first participant of this genre to win and to receive one of the highest numbers of votes from the expert jury.
However, all the controversy has revolved around Israel’s participation in the contest in the middle of its conflict with Palestine, something that Nemo did not want to overlook.
The young man, excited, broke the glass trophy when he performed his song again, and took advantage of the moment to express: “If my trophy can be fixed, I think Eurovision can also be fixed.”
However, his words were not limited to that. The artist also made reference to the difficulties he faced in displaying the flag that represents the non-binary gender.
“It’s amazing. I had to introduce my non-binary gender flag at the beginning of the show because Eurovision told me I couldn’t display it, but I decided to do it anyway,” she stated.
Furthermore, as he raised his trophy, he added: “I hope that this contest fulfills its promise of being a symbol of peace and love, and that it continues to seek and promote peace.”
