SunFed Produce, a company based in Arizona, has issued a recall for cucumbers that were shipped to 13 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces due to potential salmonella contamination. The Food and Drug Administration made the announcement this week, stating that the cucumbers in question were sold between October 12 and November 26.

Although no illnesses have been reported as of now, it is essential for consumers who purchased cucumbers during this time frame to check with the store where they bought them to determine if the product is part of the recall. It is also recommended to thoroughly wash any items or surfaces that may have come into contact with the cucumbers using hot, soapy water or a dishwasher.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. These symptoms typically appear between six hours to six days after ingesting the contaminated food. While most people recover from salmonella infection within a week without needing medical treatment, it can cause severe illness in young children, individuals over the age of 65, and those with weakened immune systems.

Earlier this year, a separate salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers affected 450 individuals in the United States.
