Support Grows for Injured CBC Student as Police Investigate: Community Comes Together

In St. Louis, the search for the gunman who critically injured 16-year-old high school hockey player Colin Brown over the weekend is ongoing. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is urging witnesses to come forward to help piece together what happened. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Sunday along southbound Interstate 55 near Loughborough Avenue while Colin was riding home with his father from his CBC High School hockey game.

Colin’s father drove to S. Fourth and Walnut Streets where they were met by police and EMS. Colin was rushed to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. The police department is determined to find the perpetrator behind this senseless act of violence and bring them to justice.

Community members, especially those in the hockey community, have rallied around Colin in a show of support. The “Sticks Out for Brownie” movement has seen hockey sticks placed outside homes, at Affton Hockey Club where Colin plays, and at the chapel entrance of CBC High School. Even former St. Louis Blues player Pat Maroon and his Chicago Blackhawks teammates sent a message of support to Colin and his family.

Various fundraisers and vigils are being organized by youth hockey teams and groups, with the Dawg Nation Hockey Foundation offering a matching donation for every dollar contributed to Colin’s family. Colin’s father, a retired Illinois State Police Lt. Colonel, is receiving assistance from the state police, underscoring the community’s support for the family during this difficult time.

Calls for tighter gun laws and policing have also emerged in the wake of this tragic incident, with many expressing concern over the safety of attending sporting events. The St. Louis Blues organization has expressed solidarity with Colin and his family, promising to honor them in a respectful manner, likely before an upcoming home game.

As the investigation continues, the outpouring of support for Colin and his family highlights the unity and strength of the community in times of adversity. It is a testament to the power of coming together to stand by those in need and seek justice for victims of violence.
