Heavy rainfall in the St. Louis area has led to flooding issues, causing problems for drivers trying to navigate the roads. In Fenton, Missouri, near the Meramec River, a driver found himself stuck in standing water, requiring emergency crews to respond and tow his car out of the murky floodwaters.

Mark Hartmann, from Hartmann’s Towing, shared that they have been busy pulling out numerous cars from floodwaters this week alone. Unfortunately, the damage caused by the water often leads to vehicles being totaled due to the impact on the electrical system.

Additionally, a semi-truck was abandoned in deeper floodwaters, emphasizing the importance of not underestimating the risks of driving through flooded roads. Experienced truck driver Leann Williams advised drivers to exercise caution and turn around if they encounter water on the road.

The Fenton Fire Protection District, which responded to the stranded car incident, highlighted the common occurrence of such situations during this time of the year. Lt. Nathan Miller stressed the importance of not underestimating the depth of floodwaters, as even less than a foot of water can cause a vehicle to stall.

Miller emphasized the need for drivers to pay attention to road signs, use common sense, and avoid driving through flooded areas to prevent dangerous situations. Following these simple guidelines can help ensure safety and prevent unnecessary risks during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding.
