A former public official in Miami-Dade County, North Miami Beach Deputy City Manager David Scott, has been arrested and charged with possessing child pornography. The City of Miami Police’s Special Victims Unit took Scott into custody after conducting a search at his home, where they found electronic devices, including his cellphone, containing child pornography. Scott allegedly uploaded 31 images and videos and tried to purchase an additional 6,000 videos and pictures. As a result, he has been fired from his position.
North Miami Beach released a statement following Scott’s termination, stating, “After receiving and reviewing the arrest report from Miami PD, City Manager Mario Diaz has terminated the employment of David Scott.” The Miami-Dade County State Attorney, Katherine Fernandez Rundle, also expressed shock and disappointment at the charges, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement and prosecutors to preventing the exploitation and abuse of children through child pornography.
Scott now faces 15 counts of possession of sexual performance by a child. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from such exploitation and the legal consequences for those who engage in such activities. Child pornography is a serious crime that preys on the innocence of children and must be met with swift and decisive action by law enforcement and the justice system.
As members of the community, it is crucial to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may harm children. By working together and supporting efforts to combat child exploitation, we can help ensure the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable members. Let us all stand united against such heinous crimes and strive to create a safer environment for our children to grow and thrive.
