The Las Vegas Raiders made a significant change to their coaching staff by firing offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, along with QB coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg. This move comes after a disappointing 41-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, dropping the Raiders to a 2-7 record for the season.

Head coach Antonio Pierce decided to part ways with Getsy in an effort to shake things up and hopefully improve the team’s performance. With the Raiders on a five-game losing streak, Getsy’s offense has struggled significantly, ranking last in giveaways, rushing yards per game, and yards per carry. The team’s offense has also been lackluster, averaging only 280.2 yards per game and scoring 20 or fewer points in six out of nine games.

The quarterback situation has been turbulent for the Raiders this season, with Gardner Minshew being benched in favor of Aidan O’Connell earlier on. However, neither quarterback has been able to spark the offense effectively. Minshew, a Pro Bowler last season, currently ranks 28th in the NFL with an 80.2 passer rating, while O’Connell is even lower at 76.0. During Sunday’s loss, Minshew was benched in favor of Desmond Ridder, adding to the uncertainty at the quarterback position.

While the offense has struggled, the defense has also faced challenges, allowing over 30 points in four games this season, including a season-high of 41 points against the Bengals. This lackluster performance from both sides of the ball has led to the Raiders’ disappointing record and the decision to shake up the coaching staff.

As the team heads into their bye week, the search for an interim offensive coordinator or play-caller is underway. Scott Turner, the current passing game coordinator, is a possible candidate for the role. The Raiders will look to regroup during the break and come back stronger when they face the Miami Dolphins on November 17.

The firing of Getsy marks the second time he has been let go this year, following his dismissal as the Bears offensive coordinator in January. The Raiders are in need of a turnaround as they strive to improve their performance and turn their season around in the remaining games of the year.
