Inzane Brewing Co. owner, Michael Zane, expressed his positive views on the current state of downtown Vista, noting the increase in foot traffic, new businesses, and upcoming restaurants. However, he also highlighted the challenge of parking in the area, which can deter potential customers. Zane emphasized the need for events and activities to attract more visitors to downtown Vista.
The proposed committee would consist of residents, business owners, and other stakeholders, with the aim of identifying opportunities for enhancing community spaces like the gazebo on Main Street. Plans to revitalize the gazebo in 2019 did not progress as expected. Additionally, the committee would explore improvements to walkways, bike paths, and parking facilities in the area.
Zane mentioned an intriguing proposal to convert Main Street and Broadway into one-way streets, potentially adding around 80 parking spots to downtown Vista. This idea is worth considering as part of the revitalization efforts. Councilmember Corinna Contreras emphasized the importance of involving the community and utilizing the skills of Vista residents who are eager to contribute to the downtown area’s development.
Mayor John Franklin expressed his support for forming a committee but raised concerns about the potential cost of engineering new concepts without first consulting local business owners. He stressed the need to find a balance between innovation and practicality, ensuring that any changes are made in collaboration with the community and at a reasonable pace.
