A tragic incident unfolded in Pompano Beach where 32-year-old Edwin Amaya faced a judge on Monday for allegedly intentionally running over the mother of his child, 29-year-old Brenda Hernandez Amaya. The Broward Sheriff’s Office officials stated that Amaya is charged with premeditated murder in the Saturday night incident.
During the court appearance, Amaya remained silent as he was ordered to be held without bond. The disturbing crime took place on Southwest 8th Street, witnessed by friends and family, and was captured on camera. The dispute between Amaya and Hernandez Amaya over their shared child escalated when Amaya got into his Ford F-250 pickup and deliberately struck Hernandez Amaya. Cell phone footage revealed an argument in the street moments before the tragic impact occurred.
Another man was also hit by the truck and clung onto it as Amaya crashed into parked cars before fleeing the scene on foot. However, he was apprehended shortly after. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Hernandez Amaya succumbed to her injuries, leaving behind three children under the age of 10. The 32-year-old man who was also hit sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
