Florida police have arrested a 13-year-old boy for trying to abduct women and wielding a knife in a Vero Beach country club neighborhood. The incidents reportedly occurred over several weeks and involved multiple victims. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received four tips between June and July that eventually led them to the young teen. They stopped the suspect while he was riding in a vehicle.

During the press conference, Sheriff Eric Flowers praised the efforts of law enforcement in apprehending the suspect. The teen admitted to being the person seen in security camera footage related to the cases. He told officers that he felt like he was in a dream-like state during the attempted abductions.

The first reported abduction attempt took place on June 29, but it was not reported to the authorities at the time. The victim revealed that the suspect followed her home and banged on her door. Another woman living in the townhouses also reported a similar encounter with the suspect. Sheriff Flowers emphasized that the boy has serious issues and described him as a compulsive liar.

In another incident on July 2, a victim was approached by the suspect armed with an 8-inch knife. The victims in both July cases managed to escape by screaming, biting, and kicking the suspect. The suspect was also seen wearing a mask during a recent encounter with two victims. Authorities found clothing at the suspect’s home that matched the description given by the victims.

The 13-year-old is facing charges of attempted kidnapping and is currently in a juvenile detention center. Sheriff Flowers expressed pride in the teamwork of law enforcement and the community that provided crucial information to solve the case. He emphasized the importance of the partnership between the community and law enforcement in ensuring safety.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and reporting suspicious activities to the authorities promptly. It also highlights the role of community involvement in helping law enforcement solve crimes and keep neighborhoods safe. Parents and guardians should also be aware of any concerning behavior in children and seek appropriate help and intervention when needed.
