New York Jets cornerback Tae Hayes was recently arrested in Alabama for marijuana possession, according to officials. Hayes was taken into custody early Sunday morning and was later released on $300 bond. He is facing a charge of second-degree marijuana possession.

The Jets responded to the situation by stating, “We are aware of the situation, and we will refrain from further comment as it is a pending legal matter.” Hayes, who played college football at Appalachian State, has had a tumultuous NFL career thus far. He went undrafted in 2019 and has since played for multiple teams including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, and Baltimore Ravens before signing with the Jets in 2023.

During his time in the NFL, Hayes has appeared in 14 games, recording 18 tackles and one fumble recovery. He also spent time with the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL before signing a reserve/future contract with the Jets earlier this year. The team was hopeful that Hayes would compete for a spot on the roster for the upcoming season.

The Jets, who ranked third in yards allowed and 12th in points allowed in 2023, finished the season with a record of 7-10 for the second consecutive year. It remains to be seen how Hayes’ legal situation will impact his future with the team.
