NASA is gearing up for two upcoming spacewalks outside the International Space Station, and they will be providing live coverage of both events. The first spacewalk is scheduled for June 24, starting at 8 a.m. EDT and lasting around six and a half hours. Viewers can tune in to NASA’s live coverage starting at 6:30 a.m. The spacewalk will be streamed on NASA+, NASA Television’s public channel, the NASA app, YouTube, and the agency’s website.
During this spacewalk, NASA astronauts Tracy C. Dyson and Mike Barratt will be working on removing a faulty electronics box from a communications antenna on the space station’s starboard truss. They will also collect samples to study how microorganisms survive and reproduce on the exterior of the station. Dyson will be spacewalk crew member 1 in a suit with red stripes, while Barratt will be spacewalk crew member 2 in an unmarked suit. This will be Dyson’s fourth spacewalk and Barratt’s third. It marks the 271st spacewalk in support of the space station’s assembly, maintenance, and upgrades.
The second spacewalk is set for July 2, beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting about six and a half hours. Live coverage will start at 7:30 a.m. Astronauts will be replacing a gyroscope assembly, moving an antenna, and getting ready for future upgrades to the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer. Just like the first spacewalk, this event will be streamed on multiple platforms.
After the first spacewalk, NASA will provide an update on the crew members participating in the second spacewalk, which will be the 272nd in support of the space station.
