It was not plan to resign as president of the Left. But the view, to Jakob Ellemann-Jensen could be the new president, made the decision easier.
It tells the former Left-president Lars Løkke Rasmussen to DR.
I have always had a good eye to the day, I were to stop, would Jakob Ellemann-Jensen be a really good president to take over, says Lars Løkke Rasmussen to DR.
– however, It was not the plan, that it had to be now, he stresses.
It should instead have been about one or two years, it sounds from the Loop.
It is the first word from Lars Løkke Rasmussen to the press that he is under a lot of drama resigned as president of the Left 15 days ago by a hovedbestyrelsesmøde in Brejning near Vejle.
He goes on to say, that there is no basis for a new party, as has been speculated.
– Since it is here the famous meeting in jacksonville two weeks ago, I have received more than 800 calls to start a new party, says Loop DR.
But the appeals have not given him the desire to start a new party.
– I think the, that in Denmark we have rather too many than too few parties, and I feel completely comfortable with, to Jakob Ellemann-Jensen will be the right president for the Left and puts the party right.
With its announcement of support for the Ellemann-Jensen makes the Loop it is also clear that he has not tried to run the former vice-president Kristian Jensen in position for the presidency.
– Just because you have been the vice-president, it does not mean that one should be the next president, says the Loop to DR.
In a number of years, Lars Løkke instead focused on making Ellemann-Jensen clear as Left-president.
– That was why I appointed him as a political rapporteur in his time and as a minister to give him the kilometres in the legs, to become the president of the Left, he said to DR.
In 2015, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen was appointed the Liberal party’s political rapporteur, while he VLAK-government environment and food.
When Lars Løkke Rasmussen resigned as president, he did it via Twitter and did not give an interview to the press about the decision.
This was in contrast to Kristian Jensen, who at the same meeting, resigned as vice-president, but gave an emotional interview afterwards.
– If I just go out and meet the press spontaneously, so I come to say some things I will regret, and can be detrimental to both myself and my party, says Loop.
He explains that he took the decision to withdraw the evening before hovedbestyrelsesmødet.
Here it was clear for Loop, that he would not have the opportunity to present his political project within an extraordinary national congress, which “tipped” it for him.
