the Data play a crucial role in a new attempt to save more cyclists from even being involved in an accident.

And the cyclists helping each other to collect data, as the Swedish company Hövding has just started.

– We go from being reactive to being proactive, ” said Mikael Tancred, who is international sales manager, to Ekstra Bladet.

Since the end of september, a new model of the swedes ’mobile ‘ airbag’, as cykelhjelmen actually collected anonymous data.

– Now we have Bluetooth in our helmets. And we are using a dashboard in our office, where we can see what happens.

Data shows more than just trivial information about the mileage or hours of use.

It is possible to draw a quite accurate knowledge about when a helmet is close to being triggered. And if it is something which happens at selected locations in the city.

– for example, We may see that in this area, our algorithm often on overtime. That here is happening something that is not usual.

And it is a information, as, for example, a municipality can use to do something about the infrastructure, so the crashes did not happen. Also, without that there has been any accidents yet.

On the way is the cyclists themselves to contribute to a better cykelmiljø, believes Mikael Tancred.

In Denmark bikes more than 50,000 in the day around with an advanced bike helmet from Hövding. Since the country also is one of the largest markets, the potential to gather valuable data along enormously.

– Our users have already driven more than twice around the world with the new version. So we have already got many data, explains Patricia Möller, who is also working with the international marketing of the Hövding.

In the headquarters located in Malmö, however, it is neither Patricia or Michael, mainly dig through the many new data. It makes instead a number of mathematicians and engineers, who are working to develop further the helmet.

And before we got access to the data, as is happening now, we were also in close dialogue with many of those who have experienced, that the helmet was triggered.

– But now we can get a more constant stream of knowledge.
